Life in the Spin Cycle

Have you ever looked in your washing machine during the spin cycle and thought, “Hmmm, I think this is symbolic of my life right now”?  Sometimes the load of wash is unbalanced and during the spin cycle, the tub can start to uncontrollably pound the sides of the washing machine.  You have to dash towards the washing machine with George Jetson’s words’ “Jane, stop this crazy thing!” running through your mind, and stop it.  Sound familiar?

Life can be the same way.  Circumstances can escalate to the point where things seem out of control, but because of a Sovereign God, they are not.  A non-Christian friend of mine once said, “The saying that ‘God doesn’t give us more than we can handle’ is not true.  He does give us more than we can take.”  I am inclined to agree with her.  I absolutely admit that I cannot bear life’s burdens without God’s help.  I believe God gives us more than we can bear so that we as believers will fall on our face before a gracious, merciful God and cry out, “Oh, Father God, help me!”

At that moment, God does a miracle.  He gives us peace.  The situation may not change or get better, but God will guide us and give us peace.  Isaiah 49:16 shows us that God has us engraved on the palm of His hand.  I like to think about my name being written on His hand.  When I need badly to remember something, I write it on my hand.  That way it is always before me.  What a nice thought!  We are on God’s mind all the time.

If your life is looking similar to the spin cycle, I encourage you to cry out to God and give it to Him.  Let Him lead you and give you the peace that passes all understanding.  It can only be found in Him.
