Reflections on New Year’s Eve

IMG_0253Life brings us many surprises, some good and some not so good. This holiday season I have been writing about one Christmas season that was difficult, but God has been good and done great things.  This does not mean that everything has been fixed (as we say in the South), but it does mean that God has done a great work in me.  Since it is New Year’s Eve, I have been reflecting on my entire life.  I have made so many mistakes; I have lived selfishly and have so many skeletons in my closet. You and I must claim the truths in God’s Word and this one is a good one to remember for today.

The LORD’S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I have hope in Him.”… Lamentations 3:22-24

Here were my thoughts eleven years ago after my father had suffered his stroke.  To know the full story, go back and read some of my previous blogs.  Be encouraged.  God loves you and will never let you go.

“Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth.  The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.  But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy.  I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more.”

Isaiah 65:17-19

It is New Year’s Eve and today, for the first time, my dad stood. He had lots of help, of course, but he stood. He cried as I held back the tears trying to keep my emotions under control. He is now getting stronger everyday, and God is doing amazing things. My dad’s recovery is a miracle. In many ways, he will never be the same, but that is o.k. Last week we were not sure if he would live. This week instead of planning a funeral, we are planning our new life together. It will be different, but God is in control, and He knows what He is doing. It will not be easy, but with God, all things are possible. With God’s help, we can do this. So, as I sit here beside dad’s bed watching Dick Clark ring in the New Year, I am celebrating. I get to hold my dad’s hand as the ball drops in New York City and gently whisper, “Happy New Year, Daddy.” Thank you, Jesus.FullSizeRender

*This year my daughters and I will be traveling back to Haiti.  If I can help you by speaking at your church’s women’s event, leading a Bible study or retreat, please let me know.  All my book sales and love offerings will go towards Haiti 2015.  I love being with ladies and teaching God’s incredible word.  My books are available at Amazon.com

Happy New Year
