Calling All the Single Ladies: Manic Monday April 23, 2018 (Video Blog at the End)

Chipettes “All the Single Ladies”

Now, you know you want to sing the song…

(Christian) Single ladies:

You’ve been faithful to God, praying and trusting Him for your man, but you are thinking as my college roommate Pam Johnson and I said many times, “We are about to quit wearing makeup and start wearing sad looking dresses and move to Africa.” We said this quite often when the dating season had hit a dry spell.  Now I realize who amazing the mission field is, but that’s not my topic.

What do you do?  What else can you do?  This is all in God’s timing, but maybe I can encourage you on what NOT to do.  I am bound to offend someone by either the blog or the video, so please don’t leave me mean comments.  I am fragile like that.

This is a mixture of do’s and don’t’s.  It’s Monday.  I haven’t got it together and yes, I teach English.

  1.  Don’t get desperate.  There’s no reason to.  I had a group of friends that I hung out with right after college.  We were the original “Friends”, without all the yucky stuff. We were all working Young Life ministry together, so we were (trying) to live a lifestyle pleasing to God ONLY.  I remember well one of my best guy friends at the time Mark Smith who would say often, “I would rather not marry than marry the wrong person.”  Can I get a witness???  Amen.  SO many girls, young and wiser aged (you caught that, right?) will all but sell their soul to the devil for a guy who is NOT worth it.  How many times have I wanted to say, “Listen, girl, just go buy a teddy bear and throw this dud back!”  (You caught that too, right? I said dud and meant DUD).  WHY? Ladies of all ages are looking for a place to belong, a sense of purpose.  A guy will NEVER give you that.  Only God will. Seek God first in everything (Matthew 6:33) and God will take care of the rest.  Teddy bear: cost around $12.00 at Walmart.  Marrying DUD: cost beyond all reason.
  2. Do seek God’s plan for you.  Think of yourself as two ships that will pass in the night or islands in the stream (gotta love a Tennessee girl) or any other silly love song that you can think of.  You are seeking after God, moving forward.  Mr. Right for you is seeking after God.  His ministry and your ministry start to match up.  Then, there you are: in the arena with Mr. Right for you.  God’s got you on His mind.  He knows what He is doing.  Trust Him.
  3. Don’t give away the candy store.  Now let’s get real.  Too many girls and older ladies will compromise before the wedding day.  You know what I mean.  Sometimes it starts by how we present or dress ourselves.  God wants you to glorify Him in all ways-your dress and your actions EVEN when it comes to men and ESPECIALLY when it comes to men.  It’s prom season.  A friend of mine Katie Murphy recently spoke of a disturbing trend that as a teacher I have noticed for many years now.  Prom styles for girls have gotten more and more _____________. You fill in the blank-you know what I mean.  Other ladies will dress a certain way to go out with the mindset that “I want to catch me a man”.  Catch? Was he loose?  Did he escape from something? Is he running?  Ladies, ladies, ladies, he knows Cadbury chocolate when he sees it.  And if he wants Cadbury instead of that cheap plasticy tasting chocolate, he will pay the price to get it.  A real man goes after a real woman.  And darling, he will wait because he knows his Cadbury is going to be worth it. He also doesn’t need his Cadbury unwrapped in any way because he knows what’s inside without the early reveal. Are you following me?
  4. Don’t rely solely on looks.  Again, beware the physical relationship that I spoke of just now (now you are catching what I was talking about).  God designed that for just your husband-no test drivers.  Remember, we don’t have to test drive a Lamborghini to know it’s good.  It’s good because the quality is top of the line.  If you live a pure and holy life, pleasing to God and God alone, when the man comes along, he’ll know. He will love you for the total package.  You will love him for the same.  Those looks can be deceiving (Proverbs 31:30) I could insert SO many funny stories here, but I will not.  This blog could get SO long.  Just watch the Manic Monday episode in which I talk about Thor.  Girls, he is going to go bald and a belly is going to appear.  YOU will get “thick” around that hip area, and I am not even going to talk about those veins in your legs that are coming.  Don’t go after looks alone.

So that’s today’s Manic Monday.  Here’s what I have always said to my daughters:

“He’s just around the corner.  You keep following God, and at the right time, God will present him.  Don’t worry-just live free in Christ. If you never marry, dad and I don’t care. If getting married was the answer to life’s problems, why are so many divorced?”

Again, I know I have offended someone, but somedays, it’s what I do best.

Live free, my friend.

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.  Galatians 5:1

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
